Frequently asked questions
Basics
What do I need to use Construction Logger?
An iPhone or iPad running iOS 17 or later, signed in to iCloud. The app uses your iCloud account to identify you and sync your projects, so there is no separate username or password to create.
What is the sample project, and can I remove it?
The sample project is read-only example data that shows how the app works. Open it and tap Delete Sample Project when you're ready to start your own. It does not count toward the Free plan's one project.
Is there a walkthrough inside the app?
Yes. Tap the help button (the question mark) on the Projects screen to open the step-by-step tutorial at any time.
Can I use the app without an internet connection?
Yes, you can log items on site without a connection. Syncing to iCloud and with your team happens when you're back online.
Logging and reports
How do I log an issue?
- Open a project and tap the trade area the item belongs to.
- Enter a title, the location on site, a status, and notes.
- Set a due date and time if the item has a deadline.
- Tap the camera button to take a photo, or add a file such as a PDF, plan, or spec sheet (up to 25 MB each).
- Save.
What do the statuses mean?
Each item has one of eight statuses that follow the life of the work: Architect/Engineer, Proposal Review, Contract Review, Issue, Pending Work, In Progress, Inspection, and Completed. The tiles at the top of each project show a live count for each one. Tap a tile to see those items.
Can I add my own trade areas?
Yes. Every new project comes with a full set of standard trade areas, and you can add custom ones with your own name, icon, and color.
How do I mark an item as done, or reopen it?
Open the item and tap Mark as Completed, or swipe left on it in the Open Issues tab. It moves to the Completed tab with the time it was resolved.
To reopen it, swipe right on the item in the Completed tab and tap Reopen.
How do I create and send a PDF report?
Tap Share inside a project to create a report for that job. You can include the entire project, only certain statuses, or a single trade area, which is useful for sending each subcontractor only their own items.
Tap Share on the Projects screen to combine all your projects into one report. Reports can be sent by Mail, Messages, AirDrop, or any app in the share sheet.
How do I view or share a single photo or attachment?
Open the item and tap the photo or file. Choose View for a full-screen viewer with pinch to zoom, or Share to send just that file.
Team workspaces
How do I join my company's workspace?
- Ask your workspace admin for the 8-character workspace code.
- In the app, go to Settings, then My Workspaces, and choose to join a workspace.
- Enter the code and submit your request.
- Wait for the admin to approve it. The workspace appears once you're approved.
Joining a workspace is free on every plan.
How do I create a workspace for my team?
Creating a workspace requires a Team Pro subscription. Go to Settings, then My Workspaces, then Set Up Team Workspace. Share the 8-character code with your crew and approve each join request as it comes in.
A workspace supports up to 5 team members. For larger teams, email us about an Enterprise plan.
What is the difference between Internal and External members?
The admin chooses one when approving a join request.
- Internal members are part of the admin's company and take on its company name and logo.
- External members are outside contractors. They keep their own company identity and see only the projects scoped to their trade.
How do I control who can see or edit each project?
Admins can open Manage Access and set a role for each person on each project: Member can edit, Viewer is read-only.
Our workspace code was shared with the wrong people. What should I do?
The admin can rotate the workspace code at any time, which makes the old code stop working. Nobody can join without the admin approving their request, so a shared code alone does not give access.
What happens if the admin's Team Pro subscription ends?
The admin is asked to choose one of three options: resubscribe to Team Pro, transfer the admin role to another internal member, or dissolve the workspace.
Plans and billing
What is included in each plan?
- Free: one project with photos, issues, PDF reports, and iCloud sync. You can also join workspaces shared with you.
- Solo Pro: everything in Free, with unlimited projects.
- Team Pro: everything in Solo Pro, plus creating your own workspaces, up to 5 team members, external subcontractor invites, per-project roles, and workspace backups and recovery.
Current prices are shown in the app before you subscribe.
How do I upgrade or change plans?
In the app, go to Settings and tap Upgrade to Pro. Subscriptions are billed monthly through your Apple ID and renew automatically until cancelled.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open the iPhone Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and select Construction Logger. Your plan stays active until the end of the current billing period.
What happens to my projects if I cancel?
Nothing is deleted. On the Free plan your first project stays fully editable, and your other personal projects become read-only until you subscribe again. Workspace projects you were invited to are not affected.
I subscribed, but the app still shows the Free plan.
Go to Settings in the app and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure the device is signed in with the same Apple ID you used to subscribe.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases are processed by Apple, so refunds are handled by Apple as well. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID.
Your data
Where is my data stored?
Your projects are stored on your device and synced using Apple's iCloud, so they appear on your other devices signed in to the same iCloud account. See our Privacy Policy for details.
I deleted a project by mistake. Can I get it back?
Yes. Go to Settings, then Recently Deleted. Deleted projects are kept there for 30 days and can be restored. For workspace projects, recovery is available to the workspace admin.
How do I delete my data?
You can delete any project in the app. It is permanently removed after 30 days in Recently Deleted. To request deletion of all data associated with your account, email info@constructionlogger.app from the address you use with the app and we will take care of it.
Troubleshooting
My projects are not syncing between devices.
- In the app, open Settings and check that it shows iCloud Sync Active.
- In the iPhone Settings app, tap your name and confirm you are signed in to iCloud on every device, with the same account.
- Check that the device has an internet connection.
- Close the app completely and open it again.
A photo is missing on my other device.
Photos download the first time they are viewed on a new device, so they need an internet connection to appear. Open the item while online and give it a moment to load.
I entered a workspace code, but I can't see the workspace yet.
Your request is waiting for the workspace admin to approve it. Ask the admin to check their pending join requests.
I can see a project but can't edit it.
There are three common reasons: it is the read-only sample project, your workspace role on that project is Viewer, or you are on the Free plan and it is not your first project.
